British Formula 3 Championship
Two victories for Volkswagen driver James Calado
James Calado was the man of hour at the second race weekend of the British Formula 3 Championship at Silverstone. The 20-year-old clinched his first two pole positions in qualifying. Afterwards he won the first and the third race and improved to third place in the overall standings. His Carlin Motorsport team colleague Jean-Eric Vergne continues to head the leader-board. The Red Bull Junior took fourth, fifth and sixth place in the rounds of the weekend. The Brazilian Gabriel Dias, who competes for the Hitech Racing Volkswagen team, secured the full number of points for victory by finishing the second race in the rain as the runner-up behind a guest entrant. For the Wolfsburg-based car manufacturer the weekend marked the 13th and 14th race wins out of 26 races since the brand's return.

2011 Dakar Rally
New "Dakar" route has been presented - Volkswagen anticipates demanding terrain
The gruelling Atacama desert, the dizzying altitudes of the Andes, quick gravel stretches in "La Pampa" - the Dakar Rally's third event in Argentina and Chile will go farther north than ever before. As title defender after its victories in January 2009 by Giniel de Villiers/Dirk von Zitzewitz and in 2010 by Carlos Sainz/Lucas Cruz, Volkswagen anticipates even more demanding routes for its "hat-trick mission". In 2011 the legendary desert rally will take the contenders to the borders of Bolivia and Peru, five of the twelve stage-finish locations are new on the route.
